One of the Mamas & the Papas hits collections that most heavily concentrates on their 1966-67 prime, Gold: Greatest Hits takes all but three of its tracks from their first three records: If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears, The Mamas & the Papas, and Deliver. That allows the compilers to include about half of those albums, not only the hits ("California Dreamin'," "Monday, Monday," "Creeque Alley," "Dedicated to the One I Love") but the excellent album tracks "Straight Shooter," "Go Where You Wanna Go," and "No Salt on Her Tail."
