29 Songs, 1 Hour 12 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

In 1964, Dave Clark Five's raucous beat-driven pop was the only rival to the Beatles' nascent British Invasion. Over the course of their short career (they disbanded in 1970), they created songs that would go on to sell over one hundred million copies. Driven by Dave Clark's front-and-center drumming and Mike Smith's gravelly unhinged vocals, the group knocked out hits like "Bits and Pieces", Glad All Over" and "Because" - hitting the American top 40 over a dozen other times in a three year period. The influence of this hard-working, no-frills, beat-tastic five-piece group can be heard in anyone who espouses a love of pure, energetic rock 'n' roll. This superb collection also boasts a digital booklet which does a great job of putting the band in the context they deserve.

Best of the 60s

Under-rated group, this collection proves how unfair that is. 'Glad All Over' & 'Bits & Pieces' were top-flight, thumping, humongous hits, two of the very best of the 60s. The wide, white-toothed smile on Dave Clark's handsome face never faltered as he thumped the tubs, driving the songs on. He had every right to smile as his was a tight, exciting group, equally at home on the pop thumpers, R&B screamers, rock 'n' roll jivers & the delicate & rousing ballads. Mike Smith had an incredible voice, one of the most recognisable of the time, & one of the best of the time. Old-timers like me will love this, but I hope newcomers will also give it a go & discover a veritable treasure chest of 60s music.

Cracking compilation

This album covers the whole swathe of hits that the Dave Clark Five had, from perennial favourites such as "Glad All Over" and "Bits and Pieces" to more obscure tracks such as the brilliant pop of "Nineteen Days", the cracking blues instrumental "All Night Long" and great sounds of "Any Way You Want It " and "Everybody Get Together". A great compilation from a great band.
