iTunes Review

Stepping away from both the pop songwriting machine and his former crew Odd Future’s stoned anarchy, Frank Ocean guides us on a meandering but purposeful journey through his own vast mythological universe on his major-label debut. Channel ORANGE breezes from sepia-toned Stevie Wonder homage (“Sweet Life”) to the corrosive cosmic funk of “Pyramids”, which stretches from ancient pharaoh queens to 21st-century pimps. Rendered in pristine detail with calm, dazzled awe, even his most fantastical narratives feel somehow familiar—at once unprecedented and timeless.

The New Cool

Frank Ocean is an inspiring artist; his melodic phrases, unique harmonies and abstract art is other worldly.

I became a fan based on this album, I've heard some of his songs before but not in a cohesive project such as this. To me he's like the Stevie Wonder of this new generation, his gift of storytelling and introspective and poignant way of describing everyday situations especially relationships is ethereal as it is soul stirring.

The percussive, jazzy, filtered and boutique production on this album provides the foundation and balance, space, breadth and depth for Frank Ocean to 'Swim Good'. There are dope songs on this album like the Andre 3000 feature, Sweet Life, Pyramids, Thinkin About You and many more. In fact I love the whole package including the interludes.

Pull up your chair, turn off your mobile phone, light up a nice blunt and tune in to Channel Orange. Now thats a Sweet Life.

Bringing that authentic R&B sound back

Frank Ocean was going to be that guy that brings real R&B back. I first heard novacane last year and instantaneously loved it. I downloaded his mix-tape Nostalgia Ultra and have been listening to it since. I've waited for this album for so long and it did not disappoint. Sheer brilliance this album is. Well done Frank.

like.... mind blowing incredible. like stevie wonder incredible. like better than some head on a sunday afternoon incredible. like the incredibles incredible.

between sierra leone, sweet life, super rich kids, crack rock and pink matter i don't know which song is my favorite. the instrumentation alone makes it worth the purchase and the songwriting especially the second verse on SRK is just wow.

this could be a modern classic. it definitely feels and sounds like one of those albums that you listen to once and can already tell how much longevity it has.

either way ratings and grades aside BUY THIS ALBUM and enjoy one of the most captivating bodies of work in what feels like a decade.
