Box of Gems

It looked like just another bunch of re-records - but no! True, there aren't many big hits from the fifties here (Rock Around the Clock excepted!) but these are exacty the sort of records you might have found in your local jukebox. The Platters give their great standard vocal group sound, with 'The Great Pretender'. Early British acts are represented by Tommy Steele, Frankie Vaughn, Billy Fury, Jimmy Young and Marty Wilde etc. doing covers of songs made famous by American artists. Teresa Brewer shows she is anything but an 'Old Fashioned Girl'! Robin Luke's only hit, 'Susie Darlin', is a welcome reminder of the Rockabilly influence of the time. The fun records of the decade are represented by 'The Purple People Eater and Hoot Mon! You can have a lot of pleasure working your way through this treasure house of real gems.

Great album, Poor price!

A great fifties compilation that dares to reflect the decade's output rather than lazily club you over the head with all those songs that (rightly or wrongly) have become the more popular over time. However, please note you can buy the CD from Amazon for less than half the price here on iTunes, and that includes one track more too!
