Customer Reviews

This is a five star set...

And I'll mud wrestle anyone who says otherwise. The jamming is stunning. I was amazed to see a four star rated review. Truckin'/Epilogue is worth 5 stars alone. Bob Weir's rhythm guitar work on this set is outstanding. Heck with it, they're all in outstanding form. Listen to this and you'll begin to understand why people used to follow these guys around from concert to concert. Utter, total genius.

Definitive Country Dead

This is the Dead at their country best, miles away from their brilliant last live album Live/Dead, but it's certainly not for the worse. Personal favourites are Cumberland Blues, Jack Straw, Brown-Eyed Woman and the improvised jam Epilogue, which follows on from an extended Truckin'. If you're a fan of American Beauty or Workingman's Dead, this is a must!

1972 was their best live experience

This is the original live album from their 1972 European tour, argued by many to be their best ever tour from an audience point of view. There is a wonderfully representative set of pieces here, though sadly nothing longer than 13 minutes which rules out Dark Star and The Other One. But, don't buy this album!! Why on earth not? Because there is another from the same tour - Steppin' Out With The Grateful Dead, all drawn from British gigs - which give you most of these songs, plus the aforementioned two, plus Caution [Do Not Stop On Tracks], plus many others. A total of 39 tracks, 5 hours of the Dead (equivalent to one of their gigs), for £9.99. That's what they call a 'no brainer'.

Rock's longest, strangest trip, the Grateful Dead were the psychedelic era's most beloved musical ambassadors as well as its most enduring survivors, spreading their message of peace, love, and mind expansion across the globe throughout the better part of three decades. The object of adoration for popular music's most fervent and celebrated fan following -- the Deadheads, their numbers and devotion legendary in their own right -- they were the ultimate cult band, creating a self-styled universe all...
