Antipodeans have a fine record of competence: unless you're from down under (and therefore wilfully parochial) it's not very likely that a southern hemisphere artist ranks No.1 in record your collection. But you'll also probably admit that there are some very fine musicians and songwriters from those parts making likeable tuneful music with high productions values (blast them). Sofamecca pick up the standard from the likes of kiwi's Crowded House and contemporaries Savage Garden. A good mix of solid acoustic underpinnings and an electronic topcoat. Imagine a very sober and earnest Flaming Lips after a year spent in an office block with no television or manga comics. Won't start a fire in your heart. But will have you nodding appreciatively but worrying slightly that the Aussies are starting to get a bit good a music ... like they started being good at sport (and we all know what happened then)
