Worth the Wait

With a distinctive and large range to his voice, David Cook has a natural talent that is show-cased in his latest album. All songs were written or co-written by Cook and the songs range from the meaty Bar-Ba-Sol and anthem-like Heroes, to the more sensitive Lie or deeply personal Permanent, where the lyrics add depth and gravity, rather than just being an aside. One track that is missing here is Kiss On The Neck, available on some US editions of the CD as a bonus ‘hidden’ track. This is def. well worth tracking down. An intelligent and very enjoyable album, and one that is destined to become a long-term favourite. Have a look at albums by Axium - Cook’s previous band and a solo album called Analog Heart

Definitely worth the wait ...... great debut album!

David Cook wasn't the 'normal' American Idol contestant .... he constantly stretched the boundaries on the show ..... and this album is definitely not what you'd expect from an American Idol winner. Hard hitting songs, catchy choruses, memorable lyrics and strong tunes. This album has something for everyone. Declaration is a powerful anthem, Heroes an uplifting, catchy song. Bar-Ba-Sol has a somewhat 'metalic' crunch to it, driven by heavy guitar and drums. Other gems include Lie, a softer power ballad, I did it for you and Avalance. And then there's Permanent written for his brother, a song where Cook opens up his heart, and wishes he could trade places with his brother to stop his daily pain. This is one song that cuts completely to the emotional heart, one that doesn't fail to catch you deep inside. This album, considering it was put together in just a few months, while Cook was on a 52 state tour with the other Idols, is a great debut album and definitely declares loud and clear that he's here to put his stamp on the music world. Highly Recommended!

David's 2nd album excels

Now i'd probably have given the album 4 and a half but there are no halves so it's a 5. Too many albums in Itunes are rated 5 and they are not even close to that standard. This, however, is pretty close. 'Declaration' is a solid start to proceedings with David's vocal's sounding strong. However, first timers may think, oh, it's Daughtry again and to be fair there are similarities. But whereas Daughtry plows a furrow that's been well trodden Cook offers something else. 'Heroes' soaring vocal is one of the best songs I've heard this year and then to follow it with the excellent 'Light On' is a sign of good things to come. Like all albums that have outstanding tracks your kinda waiting for the next song to be one you may skip but 'Come back to me' is as good as 'Heroes'. The next few tracks are all solid tracks, with 'Lie and 'Avalanche' nestling just under the quality of the early pearls. 'Permanent' showcases David's vocals and is a welcome interlude from the wall of guitars. The Final song, the winning Idol song is almost out of place here and probably belongs on a deluxe version with some of the excellent covers David did in the American Idol season. Will this do well in Britain? It deserves to but more likely to do big business in the states as this fit's into the 'driving album' niche. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
