This album makes me very happy

Because it's just full of uplifting pop rock anthems from beginning to end. Starting with "Moves" probably my favourite song on the album, there is just no filler. Just one great track after another. It's so good that one has to suspend belief that they are original songs and not covers of old classic songs that have been around for decades. It is hardly a new musical formula by any measurement, but they just do it so well- toe-tapping rhythms combined with melodic vocals at its best. They are probably reminiscent of lots of great bands, but the track "My Shepherd" kind of makes me think of Stevie Nicks singing with Fleetwood Mac. Yeah, not many bands these days could pull off a new album and be compared to them, so that kind of says it all. You must buy this album or your record collection will forever be left with gaping hole in the centre of it, and no-one want that.

Another great album by a very underrated band

Got into the New Pornographers only about a year or so ago but I now consider them one of my favourite bands.
This album is perhaps less immediately satisfying than some previous releases- It is one of those that is a grower.
The fact remains, in my humble opinion, that they have more ideas and inventiveness mixed with catchy songs than many more famous bands put together.

This album climaxes with the wonderful 'We End Up Together'- If they ever release a 'best of' this would be the final song on that album.

If you're new to the band I would perhaps recommend you go for 'Twin Cinema' first. But if you like that, then buy this.

A must buy.

Newman began the band in 1996 as a lark after releasing Zumpano's Goin' Through Changes; one by one, the other members joined the fold, and the New Pornographers' first official rehearsal took place in 1997. By the following year, the group had completed...
