Riding high on the grunge-foreshadowing success of 1990’s Ragged Glory, Neil and the Horse waded deeper into the sludge with this live document of that album’s tour. Beyond roughing up garage-band classics like “Cinnamon Girl”, Weld boasts some startling reinventions: Freedom’s hushed acoustic “Crime in the City” is reborn as a righteous rager, while the air-siren-blasted cover of “Blowin’ in the Wind” is a potent reminder of the dark shadow the Gulf War cast over the tour.
