Her best work yet

Kathryn Williams has been making records for quite a long time. Her first effort, Dog Leap Stairs was recorded for about 80 quid back in the late 90's. In 2002, her album Little Black Numbers was Mercury nominated, showing off the depth and breadth of her song writing skills and wonderful voice. In 2013, after quite a few albums in between, she returns with Crown Electric, a wonderful collection of bittersweet, melodic songs. She's never sounded better, both in her solo compositions and those with Ed Harcourt. From the first track, Underground, you get the real sense of an artist at the top of her game. There are hints of The Beatles, Burt Bacharach, Suzanne Vega, even Dido. It all works really well. Highly recommended.

Sublime. Pure. Achingly beautiful.

No less than five stars for what is arguably Kathryn's greatest album to date. Beautiful melodies, rich songwriting and a production where Kathryn's hauntingly beautiful vocals sail over the music like silk. Sequins is one of my standout favourites, where you'd be tricked into thinking she's singing you a beautiful lullaby only to be punched by the realisation that she's singing about being numb and in a coma. Then there's the up tempo single Heart Shaped Stone, an observation we can all relate to. This is a record you'll revisit time and time again, and will never regret buying. I'm in love with real music again.

From Dog Leap Stairs to this. I am pleased that Kathryn has released her own material again. This album far exceeds my expectations and every song is personal and on point as usual. The lead single 'Heart Shaped Stone' is amazing. My personal favourites are Arwen, HSS, Picture Book and The Known. Ive never seen her in concert before but ive been a massive fan for years! Please keep up the good work Kat. This is an Amazing album - you should be proud! p.s release a Live album pleaseee! : )

Born: 1974 in Liverpool, England

Genre: Singer/Songwriter

Years Active: '00s, '10s

British singer/songwriter Kathryn Williams began her career in 1999 with the release of Dog Leap Stairs, a beguiling set of low-key folk songs that drew comparisons to the hushed musings of Nick Drake. A native of Liverpool, Williams relocated to Newcastle to pursue a fine art degree, emerging somewhat unexpectedly with a promising musical career when her second album, 2000's Little Black Numbers, was nominated for Britain's prestigious Mercury Prize. More expansive than her debut, yet still winsomely...
