iTunes Review

No Oasis album, and arguably no British album in history, has had the impact of Definitely Maybe. The Smiths and the Stone Roses had released monumental albums in Eighties, but not until Oasis did a band succeed in taking the attitude of punk and blowing it up to stadium rock proportions. It was recipe that energized an entire generation of youth culture in England, and around the world. Definitely Maybe is the only album Oasis made without fame or fortune, and its songs are kept perennially fresh through their connection to teenage rock fantasies. “Rock’N’Roll Star”, “Up In the Sky”, “Supersonic”, and “Cigarettes and Alcohol” are anthems fuelled by nothing but power chords, attitude, and a keen sense of melody. There is nothing here that an adolescent garage band couldn’t pick up with a day of practice, which keeps legions of young rock hopefuls returning to Definitely Maybe year after year. The album emanates camradie and confidence, embodied by Liam Gallagher’s confrontational vocals — equal parts John Lennon and Johnny Rotten. Its massive success was proof that a band’s belief in itself was enough to elevate the music to levels of greatness.

Classic Debut

Remember a time of abandon. A time of hedonism and all nighters. A time of pills, thrills and bellyaches. A time when everything from Manchester hit the spot and talked to a generation. Nothing spoke more loudly and brilliantly than this classic masterpiece from the brothers Gallagher and their new band Oasis. Definately maybe is an album that no record collection is complete without. From it's blistering opening "Rock 'n' Roll Star" this album is up and running like a wild animal. Layers of grunting guitars and Liams snarling vocal ("I'm a Rock and Roll Staaa!!!) sets the tone and as if there had been any doubt at all then now, maybe definitely we knew rock was back with avengence. This record does not have a weak track on it. Shakermaker, Live forever, Supersonic, Cigarettes & Alcohol all singles from the album set this masterpiece well and truly into Rock history forever. Even the album art is something to behold. I love this record, it meant something to me. It sums up a time when work was something that got in way of a good time. A means of raising funds for weekender life and an escape from gray UK and hum drum bubble gum pop and tierd rave culture. Of course Oasis were not on their own, but most definitley were the kings of Manchester, Maybe the world. How on earth were Oasis ever going to top this one!

Best Debut Album Ever

Lets face facts. Not everyone likes Oasis.... But anyone who says that they are overated are just wrong. on one hand we have the best songwriter since John Lennon. And on the other we have a singer that knows just how good they are and can already anticipate the success that is destined for them Onto the album: Rock 'n' Roll Star- Probably the best opening song to a debut album ever. Shakermaker- took some stick over the opening riff but still a work of art. Live Forever. during this time there was nirvana singing about death and misery. so noel writes the exact opposite and makes a song 100 times better than kurt could ever do Up in the sky - played and sung to perfection Columbia - who could tell that a song about a hotel could be so good? Supersonic - Best song ever written!! Bring it on Down - Just proving how great Oasis are. Cigarettes And Alcahol - This song is just so true Digsy's Dinner - never thought that a song about Liams Lasagne would be so cool. Slide away - 6 mins of heaven Married With Children - a lot more slower song and intoducing the world to Oasis' acoustic talents. People say that WTSMG is a better album . but although it is great (like all Oasis Albums) you cant beat this for anything. just pure musical genious. 10/10

Definitely amazing

Better than Whats the story morning glory which is itself a classic. This is the best debut ever. You know how most classic albums have one or two let downs, this one dosn't. Rock and Roll Star is a great intro and is the one song which could sum up Oasis. From then on each and every song is at least a good song. The other highlights are Live Forever, Supersonic, Cigarettes and Alcohol and Slide Away. All the other songs just grow on you each time you play this album. If that's not enough to persuade you this might; it was the fastest selling debut ever in the UK, it always reaches the top 10 in those top 100 album polls, in the channel 4 one it reached number 6 I think. Its just an amazing album and definitely one of my favourites. The Gallagher brothers should be proud of this one.

Biography

Formed: 1993 in Manchester, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Oasis shot from obscurity to stardom in 1994, becoming one of Britain's most popular and critically acclaimed bands of the decade in the process. Along with Blur and Suede, they were responsible for returning British guitar pop to the top of the charts. Led by guitarist/songwriter Noel Gallagher, the Manchester quintet adopted the rough, thuggish image of the Stones and the Who, crossed it with "Beatlesque" melodies and hooks, injected distinctly British lyrical themes and song structures like the...
