This whole folk/black metal genre is starting to get saturated now ( as all these metal sub-genres do ) but Equilibrium certainly stand out from the pack. This album starts off pretty ferociously but once things settle down it`s more of the same bouncey folk tinged blackened metal that they entertained us with on their debut a few years back. Finntroll are the obvious comparisons within the scene but Equilibrium have enough of an identity to stand on their own. I can`t recommend this enough, it`s probably my favourite metal release of the year so far.

Never before have I listened to such an immersive, melodic fantastic album. This album is folk metal / epic metal at its finest. I would give it more than 5 stars but alas I cannot. What makes this album so good? There is NO filler, each song is unique and has been written with the same passion. The array of instruments is fantastic, each song being layered with many sounds, and it all works together. Nothing sounds out of place, everything weaves together in each song. Woodwind instruments are very common in this band, and they compliment the musical style very well. The vocals, strangely enough suit the music. When I first heard them, I was a bit skeptic about it at first, but as I listened they grew on me. Sounds such as Dammerung show the true vocal talent of the lead singer. There is a great variety of songs on the album, vicious songs such as Wurzelbert and Verrat, more melodic songs such as Des Sangers Fluch and Die Weide und der Fluss, and of course I cannot forget the 16 minute masterpiece which ends the album by combining everything which makes this band so good into one big hunk of awesome. I don't think I have ever written such a positive review. I cannot find any flaws, this is the perfect album.

A True Masterpiece

This is in my top 5 greatest metal albums ever. It's just simply incredible. Sooo melodic & catchy. Each song is fantastic & upbeat. Even the heavier songs don't feel outta place. Heard this album over & over for the past 5 months!! Still not bored!!! One of the best bands in existence. Best song imo is "die wieder under flub".
Amazing music. Amazing band.

Originally formed in 2001 with the intention of playing just one show, Germany's Equilibrium quickly changed their minds and, over time, joined scores of new millennium heavy metal bands (Windir, Turisas, Negura Bunget, Eluveitie, etc.) devoted to penning songs steeped in the cultural traditions, legends, and folklore of their homeland. In Equilibrium's case, this happens to be the historically significant state of Bavaria — home to the Black Forest, the Brothers Grimm, short,...
