iTunes Review

Big, bold and baroque, Florence + The Machine's debut album thrives on drama. Built around the effortless sweep of Florence Welch's voice, and the delicate trills of the harp, it proudly lays its emotions bare, barrelling between suffocating lust on “Drumming Song”, debilitating fear on “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)” and the pain of heartbreak on the breathless “Cosmic Love". But Welch also understands the power of redemption: She closes with a rousing version of The Source and Candi Staton's “You've Got the Love”.

What is this spell that she has over us?

Utterly Bewitching, is how I would describe the music that just spills so effortlessly from Flo and her machine. Ever since first hearing 'Kiss With A Fist' an absolute lifetime ago, I have been waiting for this album, which seems to have been a long time in the making. It certainly does not disappoint. Out of the 14 tracks here, there are 14 absolute stand-out tracks. The quality of the production is excellent, Florence's incredible haunting vocals, and superb songwriting abilities are a shining example of someone with a real, genuine, raw talent, and passion for what they do. It really is great, each song takes you off into your own little 'head-space', it's like being in a daydream. Top tracks, for me, include the current single 'Rabbit Heart' and 'Girl With One Eye' which is just brilliant, if not a little macabre! and of course 'Between Two Lungs'. That said, there's not a bad song on the album, so by the end of today that may still change. This is an absolute must own album, and then once you've bought it, book yourself tickets to her upcoming UK tour (if you haven't already).

Blew me away-no fillers

If you are too buy one album this year, let it be this one. Each track is great to listen to. I think that Florence's debut does everything it should, its catchy without being annoyingly poppy. Its uplifting without being cheesy. Its powerful, beautifully arranged, lovely lyrics, a great feel to it and Florence has such a soulful and haunting voice. I had my copy of lungs preordered, and I have listened to it non-stop since, and have been so obsessed with her music. I couldn't possibly choose my favourites, for they all are brilliant. They all contain amazing tunes -with the harp and drums-, very interestingly expressed lyrics (unlike most records) and Florence's haunting vocals. Almightly Build-ups to the choruses too. It is very powerful and energetic. If I HAD to buy just 3 tracks off the album I would buy (although very hard): My Boy Builds Coffins, Between Two Lungs, Cosmic Love and Dog Days. Wait that's 4, oops! :D Don't buy 3/4 tracks, buy the album!! I think there is a lot of production in it, and some may argue that it is too much, but it does not detract from the vocals and lyrics and works great so therefore it does not ruin anything. I'm always reluctant to buy whole albums, but with Lungs, I did not bother considering, for I knew it would not disappoint, and I was correct. Please buy this album, I really do recommend it! You will fall in love with it and Florence and the Machine as I did and I am sure many others have already. Florence and the Machine have a brilliant career ahead of them!

Buy this ... You will not regret it!! Album of the summer!!!
