Customer Reviews

A much under-rated album

Released at the height of the punk era, London Town must have seemed, in 1978, more than a little out of time.

Paul McCartney has been very unkind about this album in various interviews I've read - but I think he's being a wee bit harsh!

Putting aside the historical context and putting aside the somewhat flawed logic of releasing an album like this in 1978 and then deciding NOT to include his contemporary monster hit Mull of Kintyre, it does contain a number of gems. The title track is great; Girlfriend is a really nice song; With a Little Luck is a truly great pop song (a match for Jet or Band on the Run); and last but not least, I'm Carrying is one of McCartney's minor and largely unrecognised/unknown classics.

Despite what the critics say and despite what the great man has said himself at times, London Town is well worth a listen.

3 stars - on the basis that Revolver is a 5 star album.

Recommended.
