A Very Accomplished Solo Debut

This is one of the few albums that have been 'instant' for me - I loved many of the songs the moment I heard them. Standout tracks are the opener 'I Don't Care..', the somewhat angry 'State of the Union', and 'Cheer Up...'. Fans of acoustic artists such as David Gray or Jack Johnson are bound to love this, and in all honesty this is what stops this album being '5-star'. While it seems ridiculous to be negative about an album I am giving 4 stars, it is fair to say that this is not really a 'cross-over' album - it is unlikely to appeal to any non-fans of the alternative/acoustic genre. That said, if you are a fan of the genre, this album is not far from essential, and I would highly recommend it to you.

A stroke of genius

No disrespect to James Blunt who is undoubtedly a talented artist, but David Ford is from a different stratosphere. How unfair that Blunt should have so lucratively sated the public tastebud and Ford has been largely ignored. This guy is genius, I've read him described as a mixture of David Gray and Kurt Cobain: you'd better believe it. This is a heavy weight talent, but beware an uncomfortable ride awaits, try avoiding the bile so dramatically spat out in State of the Union. Every track is incredibly powerful, the opener will rip your heart out on first listen and the conclusion Laughing Aloud merley confirms the arrival of a legend. Ford was previously the lead singer in the high quality Brighton based pop group Easyworld where his talent was obvious to the small minority who bothered to listen to their glorious output. Check out their version of Young Hearts Run Free: it will kill you! In an era where millions waste their money texting formulaic talent (less!) prime time tv shows voting for singing dustman and Timberlake lookalikes, please open your horizons, embrace this incredible man and your life not to mention your credibility will be enhanced forever! I am due to see him live next week in Cambridge for the first time and I cannot wait!

...Apology Accepted

it has been just over a year since Mr ford left pop trio easyworld, and in that time he has taken a break, written some songs, built a dedicated following, toured a bit, and released a truely, honest, and faboulous work of art. Not bad for a years work. Ford solo work brings together a mixture of heart - wrenching ballads, and more upbeat "get up and move on" anthems. Stand out songs are "i dont care...", "cheer up..." and "Dont tell Me" all the songs very different but all equally alouring. the album flows very nicely and draws to a fantastic 8 minute climax with laughing aloud a brilliantly moving songs, with gourgous lyrics... its not just all about the music with Mr Ford, his live performance is something amazing to watch, fan favourite "State of the Union" see Mr Ford building layer upon layer with several intsruments BY HIMSELF, moving around the stage like a man possessed, with emotion ousing! Overall though this album is easily 5 Star, it is a fantastic piece of work, and i recomend it to all...also, a little bird told me there maybe a secret track before track 1...try rewinding 5 minutes before "i dont care" see what comes up ;-)
