A beast of an album.

Volume from the pits of hell, it makes just about every other rocking metal band sound like Belle and Sebastian. Crunching riffs, vocals that are just about distinguishable from the sound one would expect from a chat with Satan himself and you have Dopethrone. The only comparison I could possibly draw is with Deftones, but in all honesty that goes nowhere near giving this lot justice. It is heavy, intense and darn good when you're ready to demolish your neighbours tolerance to your favourite metal monsters. Enjoy? Yeah, you will.

The definition of heavy

We metalheads use the term HEAVY very very loosely... to the point where it becomes an all encompassing description for pretty much all of our musical tastes. Electric Wizard - hailing from deepest darkest Dorset in the UK - are heavy personified, not heavy fast and not heavy in a death metal sense but in a trippy and downtuned type of heavy.

Vocalist Jus Osborn can sound unintelligble at times due to the distortion effects, but it all boils down to the stoner and sludge factor. Terrorizer magazine recently voted this Album of the Decade, recommended to anyone who appreciates both the fast and slower aspects of metal.

THE BEST

the best album by an amazing band. Every song is a highlight, but especially funeralopolis, I the Witchfinder, We hate you... Just mindblowingly good. Light up a joint and crank it up!

Formed: 1993 in Dorset, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Formed in darkest Dorset by vocalist/guitarist Justin Oborn (previously with Lords of Putrefaction), bassist Tim Bagshaw, and drummer Mark Greening, and initially known as Thy Grief Eternal (briefer still,...
