Customer Reviews

I heard an advert for their new album and was intrigued so went rummaging on iTunes...and I'm incredibly glad I did!

Ordinarily a fan of both classical and heavy metal, to hear some of the songs covered on this and the new album I was completely blown away. A choral version of a Rammstein song? It shouldn't work, but it does and it does so very well! This is very much not your usual fair of well loved, but over-covered, classics - the choices are a bit more daring and the voices carry it off perfectly as they are simply stunning.

If you're a classical fan, don't be put off thinking it's all "popular" music. It may not be Mozart but its just as beautiful.
If you're a metal/alternative music fan - Engels will blow you away.

Fun for the Ears

I bought this album after hearing "With or Without You" on the ITV trailer for the new Downton Abbey series, and I'm glad I did. It's a great, if slightly random, collection of covers. The choice of songs range from amusing (Rammstein? awesome) to poignant, and they're all beautifully orchestrated.

This is great background sound for a social gathering, or something to listen to while you're working from home. A great addition to the collection, right next to Nouvelle Vague in the party mix.

This album is brilliant. Such a good mix of songs. Don't break my heart and creep are especially fantastic.

Brothers Steven and Stijn Kolacny (pianist and conductor, respectively) treated the group like a classical ensemble at first, and Scala's ranks grew as the girls won a number of awards, including the title of Belgium's Choir of the Year in 1999. By the early 2000s, though, the Kolacnys had grown tired of...
