Album Review

Pianist William Joseph's debut album, Within mixes instrumental pop, classical compositions, and reworked rock tunes into an atmospheric mélange that seems to be aimed at a middle ground between classical and new age. Most likely appealing to fans of lite-classical artists such as Josh Groban and Jim Brickman, Within features Joseph at the piano backed by strings both real and synthesized as well as a shiny layer of orchestral and programmed beats all via the production wizardry of Grammy winner David Foster. Despite hip crossover attempts with Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir and the soft rock classic "Dust in the Wind," the album works best as a kind of background music as there isn't much difference between his "pop" tunes and such classical standards as "Ave Maria." A crisp technician, Joseph does display a marked intensity on the title track and that coupled with his darkly handsome, matinee idol looks should garner him more interest than this album might have otherwise.

I saw William at the 22nd May Il Divo concert and he blew me away!! Amazing talent and I would give anything to play like him. He plays with such passion and the music he has written himself is mind blowing!! He deserves to do so well and he is such a friendly and down to earth guy!! I recommend anyone buys this as it is a beautiful album!! Well done and I look forward to ssoo many more albums!! Alex

William Joseph

Saw William at Il Divo concert and you have to say this guy can make a piano dance - absolutely superm live. Unfortunately the energy in his live performances is not replicated on the album. All a little too polished with orchestral arrangements backing virtually every song which somewhat detracts from the pure piano playing talent. Kashmir is worth the cost of the album on its own, but this could have been so much better if they had showcased William on his own - just him and a piano.

William Joseph! Fantastic

I saw William perform live as a supporting act for IL DIVO at Newcastles Metro Radio Arena, (uk) He was superb. His adaptations and personality were perfect. He performed a great support for IL DIVO. He had the whole arena going wild by the time he had finished his performance. I would recommend his album and his music to anyone! Young or old! Your feet will not stop still. Well Done William
