I would rather have it without the upbeat tempo. Some tracks are great but I like my Guthrie to fall asleep to......I bought the latest Guthrie/Budd after debating. Now that's nice.

Decent, not great

I have all Robin Guthrie's other solo efforts, as well as those with Harold Budd, and I found this a bit much of a good thing. It's very much the same as his last few years' work, but somehow missing something for me. All the other Guthrie and Cocteau albums have at least three or four tracks I really love, but I don't find I come back to any of the tracks on Emeralds, as much as I wanted to like it. I'd recommend the original pair of Guthrie/Budd albums (the After/Before ones) or some of his other EPs over this. I think a change of direction and/or collaborators is needed...
