A bargain introduction to Charlie Mingus

There are four great Mingus albums here; two from 1955 (Jazz Composers Workshop & Live At The Bohemia) and two classic 1959 albums (MIngus Ah Um & Mingus Dynasty). The two additional tracks are 'Please Don't Come Back From The Moon' (from Let My Children Hear Music, 1971) and 'The Shoes Of The Fisherman's Wife' (from Epitaph, 1989). The music is wonderful throughout but the track order isn't chronological and doesn't follow the track order of the original albums. The band line-ups, composition, improvisation and atmosphere are quite different between the 1955 & 1959 albums so the flow jars at times. Overall that's a small quibble given the amount of brilliant music you get for £3.49.
