Smooth, thoughtful and emotive

A great follow on to 'Beyondness of things', this album is perhaps a little more solomn than it's predecessor but still carries a very deep and thoughful tone. Thoroughly recommended for anyone interested in Barry's Style, or indeed in new orchestral music. My personal favourite on this, probably "Fred and Cyd". But they're all worth listening to many times over.

Anyone whose spine has tingled to the rousing sound of John Barry's Bond themes (listen to the Thunderball soundtrack for starters) will be delighted with this. The mood here is, in turn, joyful, sombre, menacing (a la Bond), sprightly... those classic Barry hallmarks are here - rising sombre French horns, piccolos dubbing trumpets on the more rousing parts, and the bluesly piano colourings. Utterly irresistable.

A worthy follow on from the beyondness of things

I actually thought this Album was better for being more somber than the beyondness of things which had superb tracks but some were a bit too cowboy for me. This is more in the bond / mercury rising style. Absolutely outstanding.

The orchestra presents an annual concert series in London and also tours internationally. Over its history, the ensemble has expanded its repertoire...
