Album Review

Alesha Dixon's third studio album, the second to be released, launches at a very different point of the singer turned dancing celebrity's career. The Entertainer was released after a platinum-selling album with four Top 20 singles, as well as after a shift to the judging panel of the Strictly Come Dancing stage. Both of these milestones reflect a marked change in Alesha's studio recordings, which in just two years have shown a marked improvement in terms of quality. Just about every line to every song on The Entertainer is brassy, reflecting a more confident and sexy pop star. Alesha isn't just guessing when she says "I be the apple of pop-hop music" on the blazing dance number "La La La": she's telling the truth. Few artists in 2010 are able to blend hip-hop, rap, dance, and pop in one 12-pack of songs, but Dixon does it with mastery. Nearly every track is crafted to radio perfection, whether through the synth-stomp blasts of "Drummer Boy" and "Entertainer" or via the slick pop hook on "Every Little Part of Me," featuring the multifaceted Brit pop star Jay Sean — Alesha leaves you craving more tunes to bump and grind along to. At her finest, Alesha really does remind listeners of the greats: "On Top" is Alesha playing Janet Jackson at her finest, and "Radio," when remixed featuring Wiley, shows that Alesha can rival the likes of even some of Whitney Houston's and Madonna's latest club tunes. On "La La La," Alesha opens with a shout-out to the United States, announcing that she's planning on taking over. With the batch of songs she has now, this would not be surprising. It's hard to tell so early in Alesha's solo career whether she'll be more of a household name over the next few years, but a follow-up release this promising from a solo pop-hop female vocalist, as Alesha puts it herself, has not been found since Rihanna's third album, Good Girl Gone Bad. Alesha isn't just making a claim; an entertainer, she definitely is.

Customer Reviews

I LOVE ALESHA DIXON!!

1. Baddest Chick- 9/10, great opening song for the album. Catchy & upbeat. However, it's one of those songs that people tend to get bored of, quite quickly.
2. Radio- 10/10, a dance themed ballad, it is very similar to the style of music of Shontelle. If you like her, you'll like this track.
3. Every Little Part of Me- 8.5/10, catchy & Jay Sean is featured. A great song if you are feeling loved up, not so great if you are single.
4. Take Control- 8/10, featuring Roll Deep, not the strongest track on the album. Slightly repetetive.
5. Drummer Boy- 7.5/10, the lead single is in my opinion the weakest track on the album. It comes across as Alesha is trying too hard to be edgy?
6. The Entertainer- 9.5/10, one of my personal favourites. The title track is catchy and sticks in your head. A great tune.
7. Colour- 8/10, it is good. However, I think it's slightly overproduced.
8. Tug of War- 8.5/10- good tune. Catchy and a great album track.
9. On Top- 8.5/10- good tune. Shows Alesha's edgier, sexier side.
10. La La La- 10/10- I LOVE this track. It really shows Alesha's edgy, rapper style. This style is really good for her!
11. Cool With Me- 8/10- Not the strongest, not the weakest track. But a nice, uplifting song.
12. Radio (Remix)- Good remix of the original version.
13. Ice Cold Summer- 9/10, I love this song. I personally think it should be more than a bonus track.
14. Love In A Box- 6.5/10, In my opinion the weakest track. Slightly boring.
Overall I think this is a very good album, one of my favourites this year. I LOVE Alesha Dixon!!

It's back to the old Alesha flow!

A brilliant follow-up to Alesha's platinum selling album 'The Alesha Show', she delivers yet again with 'The Entertainer'. This album is what Mis-teeq fans expected first time round, with a bit of MC'ing thrown in on the track 'La La La' and 'Baddest Chick'. A track to please everyone and none to disappoint. No review will do this album justice, so hear it for yourself and buy it now.

SHE'S BACK!

this album is fantastic!
there isn't one song I dislike, and the production is amazing.

I hope Alesha fulfills her American dream, this album is US worthy!

if you loved Mis-teeq, you'll love this album.

Like Matt Willis, Kenzie, and Kerry Katona before her, singer Alesha Dixon became a household name not through her dance-pop music, but thanks to an appearance on a reality show.
