EDITORS’ NOTES

Away from the strictures of the Oasis brand (and the complex antagonism of his relationship with his younger brother), Noel Gallagher recaptures his warmly melodic vintage on this solo debut. Not that the abundant Gallagherian signifiers—the glammy stomp of “Dream On…,” the baleful bounce of “The Death of You and Me”—inhibit experimentation. “AKA…What a Life!” is an audacious, strutting slice of piano-driven disco, and “Stop the Clocks” (originally written a decade earlier for his former band) swirls existentialism with grand, Ravi Shankar-ish psychedelia.
