rip off

What a total rip off, i love van halen but this album is exactly the same in every way as the best of both worlds cd. so if you have the best of both worlds cd avoid this like the plague.

Go on, download this and rock your socks off!

Okay, so this compilation is hardly new (although it does have one or two new tracks) but it is a reminder of some of the best licks in modern rock history so it's got to be worth a tenner of anybody's money. Hasn't it?

No Stars

The above rating being unavailable, I am forced to censor my review. Suffice to say that the only Van Halen Greatest Hits package I am prepared to take seriously is one that does not feature a single song featuring Samuel Hagar IV or whatever you splendid Americans call your siblings. I do not have the distinction of an 'across the pond' birthplace so perhaps my affinity with American music is a little shakey but I have always failed to see why any of you, and forgive the vernacular, Yanks, ever took to the post-David Lee Roth model of Van Halen. The very fact that DLR is censored from every orifice of artwork on this album is proof enough. Van Halen were a decent band is his day and Edward, an ageing rocker in need of help, probably knows it. From the moment Hagar opened his mouth I shuddered. A fearsome, mop-headed loon of little brain belting out indescribable dross. In many ways Van Halen were remarkable. A band who regressed musically. From Stradivarius to Tin Whistle in 20 fun-packed years. No other group has ever managed that! Ghastly, Unmitigated cheese. Pure mashed potatoes.

Formed: 1974 in Pasadena, CA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

With their 1978 eponymous debut, Van Halen simultaneously rewrote the rules of rock guitar and hard rock in general. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen redefined what the electric guitar could do, developing a blindingly fast technique with a variety of self-taught two-handed tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and effects that mimicked the sounds of machines and animals. It was wildly inventive and over the top, equaled only by vocalist David Lee Roth, who brought the role of a metal singer to near-performance...
