Album Review

For over a decade, Rob Haigh has provided an alternative to the boom-clack dynamic that inevitably led many of the early drum'n'bass disciples looking elsewhere for their club kicks. As with Haigh's earliest extended players, his fifth album draws the listener in through interweaving sequences of wide-eyed key lines, often establishing the grooves within the first few bars before working the bassline into skeletal percussion and building up the groove through luscious electronic pads. Though the plethora of post-rave synths occasionally borders on twee, with fans of the more mechanical beats which dominate the movement likely to give Even Angels Cast Shadows a wide berth, there is a quality and admirable attention to detail throughout which will keep drum'n'bass dabblers content.

Just heard this album, is every bit as good as all the other Omni stuff. - when skeleton keys came out (back in the day) I spent many a happy hour blissing out to the soundscapes - ltj bookham was doing his thing at that time, a great era for D&B. One day I will always remember, in berlin, a young DJ playing outside a cafe in kreuzberg (very bohemian)(Hi, Haito!)- doing nothin but listening to the whole album, in his own mix. So, so chilled, the sun, the cocktails, the perfection of technology & creativity. Thankyou, thankyou.

Years Active: '90s

Actually the single force of one Rob Haigh, Omni Trio's sunny brand of intricate, orchestrated drum'n'bass has been growing in acclaim since the onset of "ambient" or "intelligent" jungle in the mid-'90s brought names such as L.T.J Bukem, Spring Heel Jack, and TPower to the fore. By his thirties, Haigh already had a decade on most of those names, a fact made evident in the often more eclectic influence behind his tunes, from Carl Craig and Mantronix to Miles Davis and Can. An acolyte of London's...
