Album Review

After several self-indulgent albums in the late '70s (Lace and Whiskey, From the Inside), Alice Cooper decided to reinvent himself as a new waver for 1980's Flush the Fashion. As a result of a hooking up with Cars producer Roy Thomas Baker, the sound is glossier; Baker also replaced the gritty guitar riffs that served as the basis for past Cooper rock compositions with icy synthesizers. The best-known song ended up being the cover "Clones (We're All)," which was in turn covered by the Smashing Pumpkins for their 1995 box set The Aeroplane Flies High. Other highlights include the stately sounds of "Pain," the brief album-opening "Talk Talk," and one of the album's few riff rockers, "Grim Facts."

My Least Favourite Alice Album

This album doesn't really work for me at all. I've tried many times over the years to approach this offering with an open mind. But it hasn't worked. The truth was that the Coop was back on the bottle and the reality is his work suffered for a good three albums.

Flush The Fashion

I'm an ardent Cooper fan and although this is a very different offering from Alice it is none the less worth a listen to and buying.
"Clones" is a electronic sounding single which you could believe was made by Gary Numan. It charted very high in the states
and is still being played live on his "No More Mr Nice Guy Tour" 2011. "Headlines" is a fast rocking song with very funny lyrics.
Other great tracks are "Pain" and "Asprin Damage" very witty funny lyrics with Alice's unique tongue in cheek humour.

Originally, there was a band called Alice Cooper led by a singer named Vincent Damon Furnier. Under his direction, Alice Cooper pioneered a grandly theatrical and violent brand of heavy metal that was designed to shock. Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville, heavy metal, and garage rock, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood, and huge boa constrictors, all coordinated by the heavily made-up Furnier. By that time, Furnier had adopted the name...
