Album Review

The fourth album from Tempe, Arizona alt-rockers the Maine, Forever Halloween finds the band continuing to refine their sound, a process that started back in 2010 with Black & White. Striking just the right balance between melancholy and wistfulness, the album evokes nostalgia without feeling overly sentimental as it takes a contemplative stroll down memory lane with a city-meets-ountry sound that feels inspired by the more pop-leaning moments of bands like Wilco and the Old 97's. Fans of the Maine are going to have an easy time falling in love with this one, but anyone looking for a new slice of that (relatively) old alt-rock sound should give Forever Halloween a chance to get its hooks into them.

Spot on new material

Absolutely love this! Forever Halloween is a gem on it's own but the new five songs add a fresh feel to the album and are the perfect addition of new material between the release of Forever Halloween and the boys next album. I especially love the eagerly awaited release of Ice Cave, an old darker favourite that has been performed live so many times but only now recorded as a song. Each song is catchy & a further example of the amazing talent this band has to offer!

I loved Forever Halloween the first time it came out and it stayed one of my favourites since but these five extra songs just complete it in the most perfect way, especially as we finally have a studio version of Ice Cave. It was really fun also to hear songs that didn’t make Forever Halloween the first time or even Pioneer but still fit the album perfectly! Definitely check this album out if you’re thinking about it!

Never fails to impress

These guys truly do put their heart and soul into each record they make and it always pays off. They shatter all expectations and continually raise the bar with each record and there’s no doubt that they will continue to do so, this record is just a glimpse into what they’re capable of.

Formed: 2007 in Phoenix, AZ

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Despite sharing their name with a northeastern state, the Maine formed in 2007 in Tempe, Arizona, a collegiate suburb of Phoenix. Most of the bandmembers -- singer John O'Callaghan, guitarists Kennedy Brock and Jared Monaco, bassist Garrett Nickelsen, and drummer Pat Kirch -- were in high school at the time, and the guys wasted little time turning their '90s radio rock band influences into a familiar, infectious pop-punk sound. The Maine signed to Fearless Records and released a five-song concept...
