Wig Out!

It's sort of strange that the music press back in the day disliked bands like this so much and with the benefit of hindsight it's even stranger. I was never really sure; secretly I loved them, Eno, Roxy, Gabriel Genesis and King Crimson and ...shhh....even a bit of jazz!
Given what we have to digest today I cannot recommend this music enough. If you want an antidote to cynicism, mawkish sentimentality, technology that papers over the craps- sorry cracks; if you are a player or an aspiring player or a lover of dancing with an imaginary Gibson semi-acoustic in hand or Rickenbacker bass (check out the first bit of South Side of The Sky all you Red Hot Chillies), or a lover of music that can move you to a place where you always imagined might exist but like me, were never really sure, this band and their music is for you. Despite the line-up changes and slightly dodgy mid-Atlantic-ness of the bands late period, you will not be disappointed. Beguiling and full of craft, art and humour- great stuff indeed.

No better way to spend £8

The seminal prog rock album of all time. Prog rock is not cool and never was, its more sort of nerdy really. But if you like highly structured, melodic music with harmonies and complex rhythms you should love this - whatever labels get stuck on it. The lyrics are mostly fairly abstract conveying a feeling rather than any actual meaning. South Side of the Sky and Heart of the Sunrise are probably in my top 5 most played songs of the last 40 years - this is music that lasts! The bass and drum playing are stunning throughout and I love Anderson's voice.... If you're starting out investigating Yes - I'd start with The Yes Album, then this and then Close To the Edge just as they were released. They kind of lost me with Tales from Topographical Oceans or whatever it was but these three albums are pearls. If you liked it in the past get back to it. It sounds even better to me now.

Yes Revisited

If you are a Yes fan you must have this album. All the original tracks re mastered and a ridiculosly long version of their failed simon and garfunkle cover "america" but if you are of the faithful you will love it !

Formed: 1968 in Birmingham, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Far and away the longest lasting and the most successful of the '70s progressive rock groups, Yes proved to be one of the lingering success stories from that musical genre. The band, founded in 1968, overcame a generational shift in its audience and the departure of its most visible members at key points in its history to reach the end of the century as the definitive progressive rock band. Their audience remained huge because they had always attracted younger listeners drawn to their mix of daunting...
