Editors’ Notes

Jack Johnson has achieved a state of graceful equilibrium that eludes many superstars—offering music that’s executed with increasing polish (like 2010’s To the Sea) while retaining the unassuming charm that put him on the map in the first place. From Here to Now to You continues this balancing act with breezy acoustic rock that finds inspiration in everything from the ordinary (“Washing Dishes”) to the ephemeral (“You Remind Me of You”). Now and again, Johnson’s band digs in with a buoyant, self-assured, slightly funky backbeat (“Shot Reverse Shot”, “Radiate”) but the songwriter’s most affecting moments are in coolly constructed ballads with a twilit feel, like “Never Fade” and the album’s closer, “Home”.

However, Johnson was also testing other creative outlets -- specifically film and music -- and a serious surfing accident during his first professional competition convinced him to devote more time to those...
