About Stick in the Wheel

Stick in the Wheel are a British folk five-piece based in London, U.K. Formed by Nicola Kearney (vocals) and Ian Carter (guitarist/production/accordion), the line-up was completed with the addition of close friends Ellie, Fran, and Si. With the intention of incorporating various influences ranging from traditional folk to alternative electronic music and indie folk, the quintet got to work writing, recording, and performing around London and surrounding areas. They put out their debut EP -- EP 1 -- in April 2013 and followed with another titled Cuts -- exclusively recorded for BBC Radio 2 -- in February 2014. They returned in May the same year with second EP, Bones, and followed with their independently released full-length From Here in 2015. The band received nominations for Best Emerging Act and Best Traditional Track (for "Bedlam") at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2015. 2016 saw the release of a split single with fellow U.K. political folk group Lynched. In 2017, they released From Here: English Folk Field Recordings, a collection of live tracks recorded in various locations around the country with fans and fellow folk music enthusiasts, in an effort to capture a snapshot of the scene at the time. They returned in 2018 with their sophomore album, Follow Them True. ~ Rob Wacey
