Album Review

From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah is the second posthumous Nirvana record, an attempt to capture Nirvana at the peak of its powers on stage. That doesn't necessarily mean all the band's best-known songs are here — "Come as You Are," "All Apologies," and "About a Girl" are all absent — but it does mean that this is the closest representation to what Nirvana sounded like on-stage. It may not be perfect and it's a little scattershot due to its varied source material (the tapes were recorded anywhere between 1989 and 1994), but it's still a terrific record, thanks to a sharp selection of performances and a set list that relies on B-sides, album tracks, and album favorites, highlighting the group at its best. It's not necessary, but it still finds a great band in top form.

this album is brilliant. it shows how intense the band were live. it also shows how immense kurts vocals were. this album is great as it helps capture the passion of NIRVANA live, especially to those unfortunate enough to not go to any of their live acts.

Nirvana Live...

Its more than likely that anybody buying this is aware of the music anyway, the quality of that is not in question. This album is the closest that anybody is going to get to seeing them now, and for that alone it deserves 5 stars. Some of the greatest rock songs of all time with added speed (mostly) and intensity. Its awesome, one of the best albums ive ever brought. Personally prefer it to Unplugged...

Even now, years after you first felt its edges, the chorus of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” still sounds too dangerous—too loud, too ugly, too upset—for any mainstream. And yet, Nirvana’s 1991 single didn’t just mark an unlikely breakthrough for the Seattle trio, it upended popular culture in ways we’ve haven’t seen since. Punk became pop, grunge became global vernacular, industry walls became rubble, and frontman Kurt Cobain became the reluctant voice of a generation in need of catharsis, all seemingly...
