Album Review

Online CD shops where you can sample tracks before purchasing the disc are especially helpful with Chuck Brown, whose music is rarely programmed on radio. The Other Side consists of '40s and '50s supper-club sounds. Eva Cassidy sings on more than half of the tracks, soloing and performing a number of duets, including "You Don't Know Me," "I Could Have Told You So," and "I'll Go Crazy." The '60s deep soul classic "Dark End of the Street" is the most modern song. Lovers of '50s MOR will love this release; everyone else, will not.

The Other Side-Eva Cassidy blues singer ( amongst other styles)

Wow.........if you like the immortal Eva Cassidy who can sing anything. Then this album is for you. Chuck and Eva trade musical blows in perfect catchy blues harmonies.Every track has its own special place in a blues jazz album.
Sadly Eva died in 1996, and never received her rightful place in the music world. Stand out tracks include Over the Rainbow and Drown in my own tears. As Chuck would say in the opening bars "Let the good times roll" it is a very listenable album.
I also would recommend the ultimate in live blues with " Eva Cassidy Live at Blue Alley" I could argue that this is a perfect female vocal performance. The usual favourites of Field of Gold and look out for Stormy Monday a very serious piece of great singing.
Eva could have eclipsed all female modern singers judging by this performance, its a tradgedy her death in 1996 robbed us all of a great singer.

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '80s, '90s

The heart-tugging story of Eva Cassidy reads almost like the plot of a "Movie of the Week" tearjerker. A native of the Washington, D.C., area, the painfully shy Cassidy earned a local reputation as a masterful interpreter of standards from virtually any genre, blessed with technical agility and a searching passion that cut straight to the emotional core of her material. Despite the evocative instrument that was Cassidy's voice, record companies shied away from her, unsure of how to market her eclectic...
