Editors’ Notes

From Rikers Island prison guard to queen of the throwback soul-funk scene, Sharon Jones has been singing for her entire life. She got her big break in the mid-'90s by collaborating with The Soul Providers, a group that eventually morphed into The Dap-Kings. After several much-loved 7-inches, they dropped Dap Dippin' with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings in 2002, and the rest is history. Check out "When I Come Home", "Inspiration Information", and "What If We All Stopped Paying Taxes?"
