Wonderfully Assured Debut

I've been waiting for this album since I saw Theoretical Girl live some time last year and was blown away by the quality of her songwriting while hearing just her and a guitar. Her songs are bittersweet and melodic, with echoes of The Sundays, The Smiths and St Etienne - but with a unique chamber pop take on the ever pertinent subject of love gone wrong. It's catchy, but never in a cloying way, and there are moments of pure break-your-heart melancholy like 'Good Timing'. I've only had this album for 24 hours and can't stop listening to it - it might just end up being my favourite of 2009! Highly recommended.

Wonderful!

So unlike anything else you are likely to hear at the moment. Soulful, sparkly, well written and unique. What more can I say, an absolute must! Thanks T-Girl!

full of feeling

Such a mature progression from her earlier singles (some of which are included too). TG has been touring for years now working hard and writing new material. The songs on her debut album show how far she's come without losing her humble roots. The string and horn arrangements (all written by TG herself) really add a depth that will give this music a lasting quality. This is a strong debut from an artist who can only grow and grow, sign up now and enjoy the first album before everyone else gets in on it. Go see her live; she often plays alternative arrangements with a band who have a strong/tight rhythm section and will (if you're lucky) have the strings and horns too!

Theoretical Girl signed to Salvia/XL late in 2007,...
