iTunes Review

The boundary-testing Welsh comedy collective Goldie Lookin Chain send up white working-class culture and the music industry with sly self-awareness, rambunctious energy and a stand-up's command of silly voices. Over jaunty clarinets and boom-bap breaks, "Self Suicide" considers dying young as a record-sales strategy, and the satiric "Guns Don't Kill People, Rappers Do" mocks anti-rap crusaders over a surprisingly funky track packed with knowing hip-hop references. Judging by the old-school electro on "Roller Disco", no matter how off-the-wall the jokes are, the boys are dead serious about their beats.

Get A Sense Of Humour.

The above reviewer evidently needs some English lessons...deary me...anyway I digress. For a "bunch of Welsh Chavs" as one friend put it, their lyrics are very dry, observational and on the whole hysterical. Evidently, people who love hiphop, feel as though the GLC are a disgrace to their genre. The point is that they aren't taking themselves seriously, which is a refreshing thing in day in age when everyone seems to take everything far too seriously. A thoroughly enjoyable album. Highlights: Soap Bar, Self Suicide, Half Man Half Machine and 21 Ounces. The use of 80's samples is a stroke of genius as well. Seeing them live on a number of occasions, their live act holds up to the album. Word To Your Mother.

Good Fun!

This is all good fun, and not to be taken too seriously. Go on, have a laugh.

Good album, something different. Very funny, worth a look.

Years Active: '00s

With heavy street accents and loads of slang-slinging, comedy rappers Goldie Lookin Chain are proud to be lazy sods from Newport, Wales. Main man P. Xain had been working on tracks in his bedroom on cheap samplers when he met likeminded louts Eggsy and Adam Hussein. Getting stoned, drinking, hanging out, and thumbing their noses at respectability left the group just enough time to do some recording. Soon, new members were being added every week or so and self-made CD-Rs were being released. Don't...
