An earthly perfection
Iestyn Davies' voice is a thing of beauty, both ethereal and commanding. 'Eternal source of light divine' is ravishing, barely of this world.
When I die, and if I get to heaven, the angels will have their work cut out to produce anything that sounds more wondrous.
A Ravishing Sound
Based on the generous iTunes preview tracks this is a glorious album of beautiful music beautifully sung. Iestyn Davies' voice has never sounded better, and the sound of the King's Consort is rich, beautifully balanced, accoustically perfect and perfectly and sensitively directed by Robert King. The addition of Carolyn Sampson's voice on a couple of tracks is a joy - can we please have more of these two who blend so well. (A disk of Handel's operatic duets would be perfect.)
Can't wait for the delivery of the full album, I have no reservations in saying it's clearly a totally ravishing delight that will be on our playlists for a very long time.
Beautifully recorded and Davies is in superb voice, showing excellent evenness of tone, particularly in the low registers in some of the tracks from Esther.
Track 3 is mislabeleld on iTunes as coming from Alceste (HWV 45) when it actually derives from Esther (HWV50); the generous digital booklet corrects this.
