iTunes Editors' Notes

Neil Young famously wrote that  “Heart of Gold”, Harvest’s monster country-rock smash, “put me in the middle of the road. Traveling there soon became a bore so I headed for the ditch.” A smoother album than most of what Young doled out for the rest of the ’70s, Harvest nonetheless has its own charms. “Out on the Weekend” and “Heart of Gold” itself are lonely country ballads; so is the orchestrated “A Man Needs a Maid”, in spirit. The album also warily peered at a world beyond Young’s ranch: “Alabama” might have been an even better take on “Southern Man”, and “The Needle and the Damage Done” was a no less aching precursor of “Tonight’s the Night”. Harvest was one of the things that won him the freedom to drive in the gullies, but it’s also a good trip in itself.

Customer Reviews

Great Value!

Neils 1972 magnum opus, finally re-mastered and sounding like he's sat on the sofa in front of you strumming out the opening to the classic Out On The Weekend. I'd give this album 5 stars every day but seeing it is priced up at 79p I'd have to give it 10/10! Well Done I-Tunes!!!

A Classic Album for Next to Nothing!!!!!!

A Neil Young classic, following on the high quality singersong writers to come out of California in the gerneration. The album is a mixture of raw emotion and classic singersong writing blending together to create a wonderful masterpiece.
With backing vocals provided by Youngs previous bandmembers Crosby, Stills and Nash this album is a must have for your record collection.

Plus the absolute bargain price of 79p (given the fact each single song costs 99p) for the whole album and for the remastered version. Given the fact iTunes are taking many customers for a ride with recent price increases I would strongly recommend everyone (even if not a great Neil Young fan) to take the 79p plunge and buy this album as it is an offer rarely seen on iTunes.

Happy Listening.

.79p? you're having a laugh!!

I bought this album when it was first released in '72 and it was dearer then. An absolute classic, I had to look twice at the price, buy it, what have you got to lose? It's brilliant!!

Biography

Born: 12 November 1945 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

After Neil Young left the California folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield in 1968, he slowly established himself as one of the most influential and idiosyncratic singer/songwriters of his generation. Young's body of work ranks second only to Bob Dylan in terms of depth, and he was able to sustain his critical reputation, as well as record sales, for a longer period of time than Dylan, partially because of his willfully perverse work ethic. From the beginning of his solo career in the late '60s through...
