Customer Reviews

Midlake are pretty much unknown but compltely undeservedly as they have made 2 of the best albums of this decade. Trials of Van Occupanther may sound like loads of other folk/indie bands knocking about on first listen but on second/third/fourth listen you understand that they are so much more. Roscoe is the stand out track and is one of those songs which is impossible to become bored with, head home is one of the most uplifting songs I've ever heard and we gathered in spring has the most ludicrous and fantastic use of synthesiser ever! Seriously listen to this and you'll wonder why these guys aren't huge!

Utterly brilliant

Never before have I felt compelled to write an i-tunes (or any other) review for music but this album has really got to me. I stumbled upon the trials of van... and after just one play of the quite captivating 'roscoe' downloaded the whole album. Since then I have listened to little else... The trials of van... is instantly accessible and yet rewards repeated listening with more and more depth of vocal harmony, lyrical content and melody. Q magazine called them the 'bucolic radiohead' and I can see why, they seem to channel Neil Young, Fleetwod Mac and Radiohead to name but 3 'greats' and yet instead of copying them they turn it into something uniquely their own and uniquely addictive, I defy you to not be humming the lyrics to 'roscoe' for the first couple of days after you play it! Enough said, If you like the above bands you will love this.

simply brilliant

takes a few listens but once your into it, unforgettably brilliant!!
