Heart Of Nowhere

Noah and the Whale have done it yet again. 'There Will Come A Time' proves that they can still comeback and make a massive impact!! Big things to come and a fantastic 2013 for Charlie and co. too!!! Can't wait for the album!!

Yet another class album from NATW

I first saw Noah And The Whale 5 years ago, right after the release of their first album 'Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down', and have been a fan ever since. Considering each album as a completely separate entity, they are all fantastic works of art and they all stand up nicely on their own.
Since the previous three albums are so different - 'Last Night On Earth' perhaps being the biggest stylistic change - I have to say I was intrigued to see the direction the band headed on their fourth full-length. Lead singer Charlie Fink has said that 'Heart Of Nowhere' feels like the amalgamation of the previous three albums, and I can see where he is coming from. The chorus of 'Silver And Gold' feels like it could have been lifted straight from 'Peaceful', while it wouldn't be out of place to hear 'Not Too Late' on 'The First Days Of Spring'.
Heart Of Nowhere feels like the perfect follow up to 2011's platinum selling 'Last Night On Earth', too. Having said that, the bands sound has changed - not least become tighter on their time on the road - and this change is reflected in the decision to record the album live to tape.
If the album could be faulted, it would be for much the same things that let 'Last Night On Earth' down too. My personal favourite album is 'The First Days Of Spring', and while the band now create hook-laden FM radio rock, I don't think they have ever surpassed the musical and lyrical hight's of their second effort.
Heart Of Nowhere is yet another excellent album from a frankly brilliant band, and I look forward to the almost certainly bright future for this lot.

+ Brilliant string music
+ Well written lyrics
+ Sounds very retro

- Almost every song sounds the same
- Therefore uninteresting
- Constant repetition of the word time and words related to it just felt like they were ramming a message down our throats
- Sounds more like talking than singing which is fine... If you're Leonard Cohen

Formed: 2006 in London, England

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Noah and the Whale became a leading light in the British folk scene with the release of 2008's Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down, their popular debut that cracked the U.K. Top Ten and spawned the hit single "5 Years Time." Formed in the southern suburbs of London, the band also attracted attention by serving as a launching pad for Laura Marling, who left the lineup to 2008 to launch an award-winning solo career. Noah and the Whale forged ahead in her absence, releasing albums that moved away from...
