History of Pop - Review

This is a great collection of songs from the late Fifties and early Sixties. Sadly many of the artists did not go on to have bigger hits in the record industry, but a few did i.e. Cliff Richard & Humphrey Lyttelton, but it's worth looking out for other recordings by the artists.

However, Les Paul will always be remebered for inventing the electric guitar, Denis King from the King Brothers will always be remembered for writing quite a few theme tunes and Jim Dale will be remembered for appearing in quite a few Carry On movies.

The frustrating thing is that these songs are taken from a double album called Alan Freeman's History of Pop, which came out in the early 70's and consisted of 40 great songs and not just 24, so songs by people such as Georgie Fame and The Blue Flames, The Animals, The Dave Clark Five, The Hollies and many others, are missing.

However, still a good selection of songs to listen to, as they're not all the "usual ones" you find whenever you see a compilation album for the late Fifties and early Sixties... just a bit frustrating when you know what's missing!
