this is a great album,,what a voice,, mama cass has the best voice ever,,,,,how can you not like this album, my dad loved this group and so do i,, when i hear her voice i think of my dad and i thank the papas for that.

What a great album.I've listened to it over and over again. The Mamas and Papas can't be out classed.they have a sound which is instantly recognisable and there is a song which will suit every mood on this album. The beach boys sound the same no matter what they try and sing, their squeaking and squawking don't do it for me, but this album does. If you have good taste, buy this today.

...and then what?

Some of the songs on this album are classics, I admit, but the Ms&Ps are truly out-classed by the Beach Boys. I call your Name and Monday, Monday amongst a few others highlight their greatest achievements in a pleasantly subtle way, but i can't help thinking... 'Is this it?' They never reached the true peak in their music as the Beach Boys did repeatedly, and although I owe them a lot for writing California Dreamin', it's sad to say I owe the BBs much more for moulding it into the song it was supposed to be. And for that, I would recommend not buying this whole album, but just a few of the songs deemed worth-while by myself and others to listen to. By the way, go check out the Beach Boys... some really beautiful songs that will send your heart fluttering if you like the ms and ps!!!

Their music, built around radiant harmonies and a solid electric folk foundation, was gorgeous on its own terms, but a major part of its appeal lay in the easygoing southern California lifestyle it endorsed. The group's success was as extraordinary as it was brief, and onlookers may well wonder what went wrong with a performing...
