A Hidden Gem

Until recently, I had never heard of this guy. Since discovering this unconventional quirky character, I haven't been able to get enough of him. This acoustic collection of music from the heart captures the listener by giving the real meaning of entertainment. This live set shows up today's dross for what it is- unimaginative. Richie Havens effortlessly glides through this set of classics with pure heart driven emotion, taking his audience on a trip through time, when music was at it's best. Havens shows respect to his peers with a great cover of Dylan's 'All Along The Watchtower' and a beautiful Crosby Stills & Nash favourite 'Helplessly Hoping' . If you are bored waiting for music to change for the better, try one of the original true masters- this will not disappoint.

The Best Accoustic Album

I first heard of Richie Havens through a little know series of PC games by Access Software, The Tex Murphy Series (Tex's Lament from The Pandora Directive & Trying to Try/Slow Down from Tex Murphy's Overseer) I first purchased All Along the Watchtower and absolutly loved it, one of the best covers of that song I have ever heard!!! I then purchased the full album and its one of the most relaxing and laid back accoustic albums I have ever heard!!! If you like accoustic then get this album!!!!

Havens had a distinctive style as a folksinger, appearing in such clubs as the Cafe Wha? His guitar set to an opening tuning, he would strum it while barring chords with his thumb, using it essentially as percussion while singing rhythmically in a gruff voice for a mesmerizing effect. Havens was signed to Douglas Records in 1965 and recorded two...
