Album Review

Paul Brandt's debut Calm Before the Storm introduces a neo-traditionalist singer/songwriter of considerable potential, with an ability to skillfully bridge vintage honky tonk with a contemporary country sound; along with the chart-topping "I Do," the album also includes the much-acclaimed "My Heart Has a History," Brandt's first Top Five hit.

Customer Reviews

Perhaps his best album still!

I first became aware of Paul Brandt when I caught him opening a UK gig for Billy Ray Cyrus in 1997. He'd just released his second album and as opening acts go, he was phenomenal. He sang all the best tunes off his first two CDs and his dedication to a terminally-ill girl he knew for "I meant to do that" was rather touching. He impressed me no end and the music from this CD was one of the best albums I heard in the late 90s. From ballads to the more rockier numbers, Brandt's deep voice does a great job of relaying the emotion of the material. He seems to have lost career momentum since then but I still appreciate his talents and this album is definitely worth a purchase.
