Here Comes The Winner

How can you not rate this terrific bargain? 31 songs, not all classics, but my childhood came racing back with at least 20 of these mini anthems - perfect!

Undertones studio and more- John would have approved!

The rasping Derry vocals of Fergal permeate this iconic band's 30th anniversary album.There- album- a word that perfectly describes this bouquet of photos/tracks.Very privilaged to see the original lineup at the Queen's Ball of 19xx - were you there? I was there with Susan and I will always remember the raw energy of that night (no, the band!!). Happy Days! 10/10

Top Of The Tree

I was fortunate to see the Undertones several times. 26 October 1979 was my first and I remember the train journey from Southampton to Bournemouth even now. Saw them one Sunday night in Portsmouth with the unforgettable Marion by my side and Steve Fuller. We chatted to them and helped them tidy the chairs away. It was like that in those days. The original album and cover appear to have been deleted now and I can't trace it on ITunes. But Steve and I played it almost every night when we lodged with the Pike family in Waterloo Road Freemantle. It is my favourite album ever and that raw 70's energy still brings a smile to my face 35 years on. A breath of fresh air.

The Undertones slam-bang punk-pop drew its strength from one simple fact: you didn't need a secret handshake to enjoy it. John and Damian O'Neill mated infectious guitar hooks to '60s garage, '70s glam rock, and Feargal Sharkey's signature vocal quaver. Those qualities came together on their breakout...
