Drama Queen

Drama Queen

After achieving success as part of the kwaito group Boom Shaka and releasing the multi-award-winning debut Dream, Lebo Mathosa’s second offering Drama Queen sees the flamboyant singer and performer’s star continue to rise. Though it contains elements of house and kwaito, the album broadens the singer’s horizons by blending in R&B, soul, funk and pop. The album’s diversity is apparent as the Afropop rhythms of the Shana-assisted “Ngiyakhutanda” meet the dancehall-infused jazz collab “Dangerous” and the hip-hop of album closer “Oh Jehova”. While the funky house single “I Love Music” embodies the singer’s love for her craft, it’s the kwaito of “Au Dede” that got fans dancing the most. Fittingly, Drama Queen clinched the 2005 South African Music Award for Best Dance Album.
