A Secret We Want To Know....

Finding out that Madonna's new documentary was going to have a bonus CD of Live songs PLUS a demo of one of the best songs of COADF (I Love New York), let's just say I was very happy. The Re-invention tour was just that - a re-invention of some of Madonna's classic songs (Like A Prayer, Into The Groove) plus the chance to hear all the new tracks from American Life heard live for the first time. Straight away we are thrown into the 'Beast's Den' and out comes 'Our Queen' with one of her most popular songs, Vogue. A chance to hear Madonna very angry and her obvious care for the world comes through in American Life and every time my heart beats faster as she belts out those last words, "Do I Have To CHANGE?!?". Very Powerful. Lament is quite possibly the best song on the CD with Madonna sharing her pain through her voice, it's a very emotive song. Hearing the crowd sing-a-long to Music is heaven - an amazing new live version of Music is so infectious, you have to love it. How do you end a Madonna concert? well, with the only song you can of course. Madonna instructs us that "We Need A Holiday" and I think she convinces us all. You can feel the passion in Madonna's voice on this tour and the love and care she puts into choosing what songs to sing (I wouldn't want that job) shines through....

a new one

After stars reach a certain point, it's easy to forget what they became famous for and concentrate solely on their personas. Madonna is such a star. She rocketed to stardom so quickly in 1984 that it obscured most of her musical virtues. Appreciating her music became even more difficult as the decade wore on, as discussing her lifestyle became more common. However, one of Madonna's greatest achievements is how she has manipulated the media and the public with her music, her videos, her publicity,...
