Tall poppy syndrome
There will always be those who knock somebody who's successful - and Russell Crowe cops more than his fair share. Listen to this album - play it to friends without revealing the singer and then judge - from the poignancy of Raewyn with its plea for parents and children to talk to each other to the upbeat Land of the Second Chance - a song for all new Australians who've been given the opportunity to try again. Crowe's voice may not always be the strongest but it's sincere and improving with every album. The emotion is always there and the band backs him up wholeheartedly.
this is one of the most original albums i have heard in years, makes a change to find a singer that writes their own songs, very unique album
there's far worse out there
you listen to this because you like the guy, like his music - what's the point of trashing it on personality alone, one wonders. Several tracks work - and if some a tad uneven - well.......so's life. Bravo, Crowe et al who take it on the chin.
