Cocker Rocker!

Frenetic, funny, filthy and fantastic, 'Further Complications' the sound of Jarvis Cocker letting his hair (and beard) down. After the subdued loveliness that was 'Jarvis', this album racks up the tempo and the emotional punch. Songs such as 'I Never Said I Was Deep' and 'Leftovers' deal with familiar Cocker themes of love and lust set in his favoured narrative style, but he also touches on new topics. The atmospheric 'Slush' was inspired by global warming and the closing track 'You're In My Eyes (Discosong)' is a sinister tale of a man dancing with his dead lover. Most of the 'rockier' moments work surprisingly well- particularly 'Pilchard' and 'Homewrecker'. 'F-king Song' and 'Caucasian Blues' are less successful as Jarvis has to scream to be heard above the heavy guitars. This is a minor criticism of a generally great, entertaining album that gets better at every listen.

I feel compelled to lose my review virginity to say..... brilliant this is. I am so chuffed, it's completely made my day. I feel 15 again. So many big names of the nineties fail to deliver in the naughties but this is timeless, wrist-flicking brilliance from JC.

Sophistication - Made simple

Jarvis back again with another classic - which excludes any timeless comment at it's again unique and develops and ever listen.

Misfits have often been part of rock & roll, but of the many outsiders, few have been as clear-eyed, passionate, and savagely witty as Jarvis Cocker, a bookish, sex-obsessed English eccentric who became not just a star but a pop archetype as the leader of Pulp in the '90s. It's been impossible to separate Jarvis Cocker's story from Pulp's -- he was not only the founder, he was the creative force and the only constant member during the group's long history. Winding down Pulp not long after the group's...
