iTunes Review

Kylie Minogue’s Greatest Hits offers a well-chosen overview of her first six years as a recording artist. Drawn from her albums Kylie, Enjoy Yourself, Rhythm of Love, and Let’s Get to It, these 22 songs reflect Kylie’s initial wave of success as a dance-pop diva. All but one of the tracks are produced by Stock-Aitken-Waterman, the hitmaking trio known for their glossy neo-disco sound. From the joyful sugar rush of “I Should Be So Lucky” and “Better the Devil You Know” to the honeyed balladry of “Especially for You” (a duet with Jason Donovan) and “Tears on My Pillow,” Minogue’s early releases have a fresh-faced quality that humanizes their sleekly tailored grooves. Tracks like “Got to Be Certain” and “Step Back in Time” turn up the funk quotient, while “Give Me Just a Little More Time” displays a stylistic maturation that would continue on future releases. Greatest Hits benefits from hot remixes of tracks like “Shocked” and “Finer Feelings,” as well as three strong new recordings, among them the propulsive “What Kind of Fool? (Heard All That Before)” and a sweat-raising remake of Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration.”

So great to see classic Kylie on ITunes. Even better that this greatest hits is a better version than the original, as it has the correct single mixes of tracks, What Do I Have To Do & Finer Feelings, that on the original release were the album versions. All we need are all the extras the SAW have promised to release & the videos.

I remember when Kylie's first compilation album Greatest Hits came out back in summer 1992 and it went straight in at No 1 in the UK album charts. Kylie was the only artist to ever stayed and fulfilled her 5 year contract with PWL Records whilst all the other artists dropped out which proves that Kylie was a very commited artist to a record company and even though she has been with Deconstruction Records/BMG Records from 1994 to 1997, Kylie is now and still is commited to her latest record company Parlophone Records/EMI Records. This album is fantastic and will always be a firm fan favourite.

I should be so lucky

She is a great pop singer. I like the old songs and the new ones.

On the one hand, in the pop music arena, worldbeaters such as Kylie Minogue are few and far between. Singers and performers of her stature and popularity rarely maintain their power for as long as she has. Her streaks of number one singles in both Australia and the U.K. are nearly insurmountable. And yet, on the other hand, her inability to really crack open the American pop market over the course of her career is a story that is heard all too often from groups hailing from nations as pop powerful...
