Rose Royce - The Classic Band & Their Best Tunes

Great to see Warners have got together with Sony (the band's later record label) and compiled an album of Rose Royce's best tracks. They really were (are) one of the most creative and enjoyable soul, funk. disco bands to emerge from the 70s and 80s dance genre yet in a way so under-rated. All gifted musicians that included Kenji Brown (Guitar), Duke Jobe (Bass) Henry Garner (Drums) and of course the sensational horn section of Kenny Copeland & Freddie Dunn (Trumpets) and Michael Moore (Sax). If that wasn't enough they were then blessed with awesome female vocalists. First came Gwen Dickey who's sweet joyfull vocals graced most of their well known hits such as "Wishing on a Star" " Car Wash" " Love Don't Live here anymore" and "Is it Love You're After" When she left in 1979 she looked irreplaceable but along came the deep soulful voice of Ms Ricci Benson who had different style but proved an equal. Listen to her on the soulful funky "Magic Touch" and "Best Love.

This album available on itunes is an absolute bargain at the price. It contains all the original recordings as you know and love them (Beware of other albums on vaguely known record labels were the band have attempted re-recordings with unknown bland singers) This is the real deal and long overdue. Thank you Warners and Sony (oh and the late great Norman Whitfield who produced and developed them from the beginning). I'd give this album 10 stars if I could.
